On 11 June to 8 July, Samara airport served 349.5 thousand passengers, which is 101 thousand more than in the same period last year. The passenger traffic was 224.7 thousand passengers (+ 56%) on the domestic lines and 104.8 thousand (+ 27%) on the international lines. During this period, the operational units handled 243,5 thousand pieces of baggage with a total weight of 2,924 tons. Most of the guests of the tournament travelled to Samara by domestic flights. So, the passenger traffic in the Moscow direction increased by 73.6% and amounted to 158.8 thousand passengers these days. For comparison, the average annual growth in the passenger traffic on the Samara-Moscow route makes 7–9% per month.
During the World Cup, Samara was connected with many cities of the World Cup matches by flights; growth was observed in all directions: St. Petersburg (+47% as compared to the same period last year), Sochi (+79%), Yekaterinburg (+91%), Rostov-on-Don (+137%), Kazan (+127%), Nizhny Novgorod (+33%), new flights to Kaliningrad and Volgograd. In total, during the championship, the airlines made 1,595 sorties, which is 47% more than the same period last year, of which 1,224 were domestic ones (+54%) and 361 were international ones (+46%).
The maximum daily passenger traffic was recorded on 2 July, when the national teams of Brazil and Mexico played 1/8 finals in Samara. That day, the airport's operational units served 18,432 passengers. The maximum take-off and landing operations were recorded on 25 June, when the Russian national team played in Samara. That day, aircraft took off and landed 181 times, which is two times more than on 25 June 2017 and three times more than in 2016. Such figures have become an absolute achievement in the modern history of the Samara airport.
- Airport Kurumoch has successfully passed the test by the World Championship, - said Konstantin Bylnin, Executive Director of Kurumoch airport. - Such a passenger traffic was observed in Kurumoch for the first time; we have successfully coped with the peak loads and gained a great experience: such wide-bodied aircraft as Airbus-340 and Boeing-777 were served in Kurumoch during the championship for the first time. Well-coordinated actions of the airport team have demonstrated that there are no impossible tasks for professionals.
