Kurumoch International Airport has tabulated the results of its business activity for December 2009 and New Year holidays. The data reflect the continuation of a positive trend towards the recovery in passenger traffic for the Airport.


Overallnumber of passengers handled by the Airport in December 2009 amounts to 103,470,an increase of 16.2% over the same period last year.

The new figures demonstrate aconsiderable increase in passenger flow through Kurumoch Airporton international routes (both scheduled and charter). Last December, 25,052 passengerstravelled from Samara to a number of destinations within Europe and Asia and back, an increase of 26.6% when compared to the correspondingmonth in 2008. Goa, Sharm el-Sheikhand Hurghada are still the most popular holiday destinations among airtravellers flying from Samara. New scheduled flights between Samara and Sharjahoperated by Air Arabia have become themost striking addition to the December figures. Also in great demand are UTair regular flights between Samara andTel Aviv (two flights a week) as well as regular flights connecting Samara and Prague of Czech Airlines, whose passenger flow wasup 13.7% In December 2009 as compared with the same month in 2008.

This positive trend in passengerfigures also continues on some regular domestic flights. Last Decemberpassenger traffic on the route Samara – Moscow was up by 40% over the level recordedin the comparable prior year period. The number of passengers flying between Samaraand Saint Petersburg,but also between Samara and Nizhny Novgorod hasincreased, too.

Togetherwith the passenger traffic through Samara Airport, other figuresincreased last month. Here is a detailed background: in December 2009 cargo andmail volumes handled by the Airport increased to the tune of 9%, while maximumtake-off weight (MTOW) factor was up by 4.3% when compared to December in 2008.

Withthis positive trend in passenger and cargo traffics, Kurumoch Airportexpects these figures to be much higher in January 2010 as compared to the sameperiod last year.

Withinthe first thirteen days of January 2010, the total number of passengers handledat Samara was up by 29% (including those travelling on international flights (+40%)) over the same period last year. Despite heavy snowfalls in the beginningof January, the Airport conducted business as usual keeping the aerodrome clearto minimize travel delays.

Suchcarriers as  “UTair”, “S7 Airlines”, “Aeroflot– Russian Airlines”, “OrenburgAirlines”, “Ural Airlines” showedthe most considerable increase in the figures of December 2009. Kurumoch International Airporttogether with air carries is constantly striving to widen their route networkas well as to increase the frequency of flights on the existing destinations.
